Christians Aren't Perfect, Just Forgiven & Blessed?

My lovely wife is a Christian; I however do not consider myself as such. I believe in a higher power but that's about as far as I go with it. I feel that labeling oneself as a follower of one religious practice over another is akin to racism- it says that well I'm 110% correct in my beliefs and practices and so are those who subscribe to the same beliefs as I and anyone the message it sends to anyone else who perhaps doesn’t share this "faith"?... well you’re you're definitely going to hell, oh & I'm better than you... but it's not my fault - God said it or made it so.

  1. Carter- I am surprised you have so narrow-minded a view. 1.Chistian means "Christ-like". Even Jesus said that there is no one good but God. All this is to say, being a Christian is to attempt doing the right thing and to accept Christ as the Messiah. There is no judgment in that.
    2. True Christianity teaches "Let He who have no sin, through the first stone." No one should be judging you or anyone else.

If one has found a belief system (e.g prayer, not stealing, honouring elders) that aligns with others, what is the harm in labeling oneself as a practioner of that belief system?

  2. Actually I agree with you w/ regards the literal definition of the term "Christian" = Christ like behavior or a follow of Christ (meaning his teachings). But what if I don’t believe that God had a son by way of a virgin birth who died and came back to life and was really God himself. Does that make me heathen? Does that make my value system morally corrupt? Does that make my opinions wrong? The fact of the matter is that Christianity is based on faith. No man, woman or child knows the turn meaning of life, death, God or God Copiousness. We simply have to live our lives as best we can, with love, respect, and compassion for all human beings regardless of their view on the afterlife.

  3. No it doesn't mean you are a heathen. It just means that you are not a Christian. Not a Christian does not equal immoral. I am sorry that you have experienced judgments and attributed them to Christianity.

I agree that one must find their own way through life. Your preception is your reality. I have found my true meaning. I wish you many blessings in finding your meaning.

  4. What does the Bible say?

And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:5-8

Those who go on and practice sin are false converts. Please check out message entitled “True and False Conversion” (you can do a search and find it from Living Waters or Ray Comfort).
